Norwegian Armed Forces

Kongsberg Target Systems AS has distinguished themselves as a professional company capable to deliver complex projects with excellent after sales and deserves our best recommendations.

The Norwegian Armed Forces have a long tradition in supporting the National Marksmen’s Association of Norway and their annual national rifle championship; Landsskytterstevnet. This large shooting competition gathers 5-6.000 individual marksmen for one week.

In order to spend less money and personnel on this task, the Armed Forces requested an electronic solution and considered/tested different manufacturers. The Armed Forces concluded by purchasing 75 complete electronic targets including management systems from Kongsberg Target Systems AS (KTS) in 2001.

Since 2001, the national rifle championship has been arranged with these electronic targets at different shooting ranges every year. The expected effects of this electronic system from KTS have been fully met;

  • The Armed Forces have significantly reduced use of personnel
  • It has been easier and more time-efficient to arrange the competition. Saving results, ranking and printout are done in a much more efficient way.
  • The marking is more accurate than by using manpower.
  • The software is intuitive and modern. New personnel are trained within a few hours.
  • Approximately 15,000 spectators follow the active marksmen during the competition. The results are constantly updated on LED boards at the shooting range. The boards are readable on a distance of at least 100 meters in full sunshine.
  • The delivered system has been upgraded with several new options to support broadcasting live by SMS, Internet, radio and television. Approximately half a million people follows this competition in real time on the main national TV channels.

In 2013, KTS won an additional contract of delivering a complete electronic solution for Falling Target, Rapid Fire and Terrain Shooting at the national rifle championship, including approximately 140 new targets. This solution was delivered in 2015. After this delivery, the entire rifle championship is conducted with equipment, software and technical support from KTS. The technical support includes installation, support during the operation and after use packing the equipment ready for shipping. Approximately 500,000 rounds are annually fired at 215 Kongsberg Targets during this competition.

Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP)

The installations were complex, but the experts at KTS provided solutions that included 162 targets distributed equally over its 200, 300 and 600 yard ranges on 54 firing points at the CMP’s highpower rifle range

In 2015, the Civilian Marksmanship Program selected Kongsberg Target Systems to install electronically-scored targets for its highpower rifle and pistol ranges at the CMP Marksmanship Park near Talladega, Alabama (U.S.A). The installations were complex, but the experts at KTS provided solutions that included 162 targets distributed equally over its 200, 300 and 600 yard ranges on 54 firing points at the CMP’s highpower rifle range. It marked the first simultaneous firing of three electronic target lines from a common firing line anywhere in the world. Remotely-operated lifters were applied to each target, enabling the CMP to independently raise and lower targets without interruption. Similar facilities were installed on neighboring electronic target ranges for smallbore rifle and pistol.

In 2018, the CMP installed 160 electronically-scored airgun targets with KTS OpticScore targets at its indoor ranges at Camp Perry, Ohio and Anniston, Alabama. Additionally, CMP also utilizes 100 KTS OpticScore traveling airgun targets for use at championship events at remote locations across the U.S.A.

These projects required a significant amount of expertise and cooperation between the CMP and our Norwegian partners in expanding KTS’ knowledge of American sport shooting and CMP’s understanding of 21st Century marksmanship technology.

Ranges at Oakfield

The team at Kongsberg helped in every way possible to give us the reassurance that we needed and continued their support throughout the entire installation, even after our system was in operation.

August 28, 2020

In 2014 Thomas Country, Georgia started looking into the process of building a shooting range that would give the community a place to shoot, as well as new shooters a place to learn proper technique and responsible gun safety. In 2018, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, a grant was established to start the construction of a state-of-the-art shooting range. Ranges at Oakfield offers a 100-yard rifle range and a 25-yard pistol range, two trap skeet fields, and a five-stand shotgun course.

Our rifle range initially had plans for paper targets. After some research, we found Kongsberg. From the start of our research, they have been an outstanding partner for our rifle platform. They helped with the design of our range and how to implement the digital targets. Being from a small community in the Unites States, we had some concerns dealing with a company from overseas. The team at Kongsberg helped in every way possible to give us the reassurance that we needed and continued their support throughout the entire installation, even after our system was in operation. Our customers are extremely happy with the targets from the safety aspect of not having to go down range, but also the convenience of firing multiple times without checking paper. The accuracy of the targets is well above our expectations and our customers dreams. We dell this has given us an advantage over other ranges in our area.

We are met with a high degree of willingness and a desire to solve any situation that might arise

Our shooting range has been operating with electronic targets from Kongsberg Target Systems for a good 20 years now and we have nothing but positive things to say about them.
The targets are inherently durable and easy to maintain.
The last couple of years we have invested quite a lot in our range, by buying new equipment; targets, monitors, servers and software. The newest updated products from Kongsberg Target Systems are incredibly well developed and it has never been easier and quicker to set up training sessions and complex shooting competitions with live view in an easy and intuitive way.

For those years where we have not been the planners of the “Landsskytterstevnet” (Norwegian national shooting competition – probably the biggest in the world) we have had many open competitions and large-scale championships. Strictly speaking we have organized every kind of championship on Kongsberg electronic targets and we have never been met with any limitations or challenges on any of their products.
Quite on the contrary we have received very positive feedback on how quickly we can move shooters through the lines and the detailed scoreboards that are continuously and automatically updated, and we definitely have Kongsberg Target Systems to thank for that.

Every once in a while we need support form Kongsberg Target Systems for different reason that could be related to question about the maintenance of the targets or monitors or questions only relating to us specifically and the support team at Kongsberg Target Systems are always very service minded and nothing is considered a “problem”. We are met with a high degree of willingness and a desire to solve any situation that might arise. Whether we call in the daytime or late in the evening. This is something that we greatly value.

We are no longer just competing locally with other teams, we look forward to the bigger regional and national competitions.

We have had a rifle team for many years, but until we got the Kongsberg Electronic Target System, we were just an average to good team. We bought a system that gave us feedback, but the problem with that system is that the feedback comes after you have already shot that position. Now, with receiving instant feedback from the monitors, giving you the exact measurements of your shot group, it has taken our team to the next level because we can make in progress adjustments, not after the fact.

Our scores have improved dramatically. It is not uncommon for our shooters to shoot a 100 in prone and nearing that in other positions. This is something our team has never done using previous systems.
We are no longer just competing locally with other teams, we look forward to the bigger regional and national competitions.

We cannot recommend this system enough. No more messy paper targets and scoring by hand or running through a scanner. It’s all instant feedback!! We can let our parents get online at home and watch their child’s scores as they shoot, all in real time. We are just in our second year of using this system and on average each of our shooters have improved by 20 points. We are by no means a national powerhouse, but who knows what the future will bring us.

During these days of COVID pandemic it has also been very useful to be able to broadcast the shooters results live to the internet, mobile phones, tablets and computers with the software provided by Kongsberg Target Systems.

We have been very satisfied customers of Kongsberg Target Systems ever since 2005.
Our range is fitted with both outdoor and indoor acoustic electronic targets from 15m to 200m as well as rapid fire targets.
Ever since we started operating with the Kongsberg Targets our scores have significantly increased and the time we spend with pit duty has basically been decreased to no time at all.

They were very simple to install and the minimum maintenance and no need for calibration is saving us significant amounts of time, that can be spent actually shooting instead.
The targets and monitors are solid and can withstand the harsh Norwegian weather without any problems which is absolutely crucial for our outdoor part of the range.

Switching from paper targets to Kongsberg electronic targets is the best decision our club has made.

We have attracted more shooters as the “boring” tasks have been reduced and both adults and kids are impressed and enthusiastic over the new technology and being able to get their results instantly – and avoiding the long walk back and forth to measure shots and tape the targets over and over again.

During these days of COVID pandemic it has also been very useful to be able to broadcast the shooters results live to the internet, mobile phones, tablets and computers with the software provided by Kongsberg Target Systems.
This way we can still organize competitions and show the results live to spectators and keep the social distance as recommended by the authorities. This has helped keep up the spirit especially for our young members.

If we need to get support for some of the targets or monitors, or just have general questions, we are always met with a nice and pleasant support group even late in the evening and we have always been able to get our issues resolved with the help of the Kongsberg team.

We highly recommend Kongsberg Target Systems as a supplier of electronic target systems.
